Let me start out by saying that yes I read all the information on these stories but I wasn't fully expecting the intensity of them (not in a bad way). These BDSM themed stories are definitely not for the faint of heart (the author even gives warnings about stories that might contain triggers in the opening). I like my stories from steamy to extreme and these were definitely high on the extreme scale. Many of the stories involved serious dominance/submission including blood play, boot worship, and very rough hitting/belting/caning. I really liked reading the more intense stories as the more "acceptable" books that appeal to romance lovers only have some spanking as BDSM play and don't get into this deeper side.The great thing about this anthology is the fluidity of gender in all of the stories. I haven't seen another author do it quite as good. I applaud Xan West at how well they handle this. No matter if you consider yourself gender queer, if you appreciate erotica that includes more sexual minorities and like your BDSM really rough, hard and messy you will enjoy this collection.

Ok. I absolutely LOVED this book. It was great. This was one of those books that I simultaneously didn’t want to finish because I wanted to savour it but wanted to finish because I wanted to read the rest of the stories.

Xan West writes candidly, unabashedly, and painstakingly honestly about queer desire, the (renaming/reimagining of) anatomy (such as the magic that makes a strap-on as much a real cock as any home-grown), and kinky sexual pursuits.
Xan writes explicitly, intentionally, and beautifully about Black and Brown characters, the complexities of the intersections of race and BDSM, characters with various disabilities, the challenges faced by disabled folks who play hard, trans and genderqueer and gender non-conforming characters, fat characters, survivors, and so many others that are often just thrown into erotica for “diversity’s sake” or as an after-thought (or, more commonly, not thrown in at all). All of this in a genre that all too often whitewashes, glosses over (or, more often, fails to address) political implications of race, size, gender, disability, triggers, etc. Xan does all of this (and much more!) and still manages to keep it hot and dirty. Smut based in good politics. Nothing gets me wetter.
While reading "Nervous Boy" I easily identified with that boy. What bottom hasn't been there before when they were uneasy about their mouths writing a check their ass couldn't check? I felt the anticipation building in my body as it undoubtedly did in the boy's body...just as my own body had in the past when being lead somewhere by an intimidating top who I knew would do awful things to me that I so badly longed for but was unsure I could take (but of course I did).
I was so grateful for the raw honesty of the fact that even the most badass of tops have their own moments of self-doubt and insecurities.

Phenomenal collection by one of the best queer kink erotica writers, period. Xan West has contributed to dozens of anthologies and is widely acknowledged for their stories with complex characters exploring psychology, interpersonal connection, and fetishes. This is the fist time their work has been collected in one volume, and it's phenomenal.
There are so many things I like about it—the smart gender dynamics, the inclusion of so many different types of people and identities, the complex D/s, the intersection of healing/trauma and erotics/desire, the beautiful turns of phrase. I love how Xan shows vulnerable and fallible dominants who are still badass, strong, commanding. Highly recommend this collection to anyone who like gritty, real erotic stories. It won't disappoint.
I’m not even going to pretend to be unbiased — I love Xan West‘s writing. I have been a fan since discovering Xan’s work ages ago. My fandom is mainly based on Xan’s ability to write hot, nuanced sex scenes involving characters with complex gender and sexual identities. After getting partway in, I already knew that this collection was going to be one of my favorites. My standard bearer for how to do kinky erotica right has been Macho Sluts by Patrick Califia. Show Yourself To Me gets to sit right next that classic on my ‘must haves’ list.
West has written some of my favorite BDSM scenes and has a special knack for Daddy/boy scenes. Diversity isn’t thrown in as an afterthought or as something to gawk at. The characters in these stories represent a broad spectrum of the real people involved in kink and BDSM — this isn’t an amplifier for mainstream media representations of what is attractive, this is a mirror on reality with a healthy serving of non-cisgender characters of color, size and varying abilities, all rendered lovingly and fully by this writer. These are hot stories involving consent and respect for real, complex identities. Queer erotica indeed.
